ACADEMIC AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Associate Professor, University of Nevada, Reno (1998 - 2005),
Assistant Professor, University of Nevada, Reno (1992-1998):
I hold a tenured academic faculty position in economics, adjunct in international business.  My research on Chinese economic reform, international financial policy, firm productivity, and comparative efficiency has been published in refereed academic journals.  I teach or have taught courses in international trade and finance, the economy of China, comparative economic systems, economic development, intermediate microeconomics, and the principles of both micro- and macroeconomics, and I taught a course for the university  in Chengdu, China, during the Summer of 1998.  I created and ran the undergraduate major in international business, and I was awarded the College's Senior Scholar Mentor Award in Fall 1999.
Co-Editor, China Economic Review (2000-2004):
Jointly responsible for contents and administration of academic journal (see the China Economic Review website).  As associate editor (1998-1999), I also designed the journal's website at <http://www.unr.nevada.edu/~cer/>.
Visiting Professor, the Johns Hopkins University - Nanjing University Center for Chinese-American Studies (Spring 1990, 1993-1994 Academic Year): 
I taught three semesters of economic principles, international economics, economic development, and comparative economics to Chinese graduate students (in English).
Foreign Expert, Shanghai Institute of Foreign Trade (Autumn 1989):
I taught a semester of intermediate microeconomics (in English) to six classes of Chinese juniors and seniors.
Lecturer, Seattle University (1988-1989):
I taught four quarters of international economics, economic development, and intermediate macroeconomics to undergraduates, as well as an MBA course in macroeconomic analysis. 
Pre-Doctoral Teaching Assistant, University of Washington (1985-1987, 1989, 1990-1992):
While a graduate student, I taught my own courses in international economics, economic development, and both introductory macroeconomics and microeconomics.  I also assisted in teaching graduate microeconomics. 
Demand Analysis Administrator, GTE Northwest (1987-1988): 
I took this position after completion of my M.A., before returning for my doctorate.  I forecasted long-distance network usage for a regional telecommunications company, and made econometric forecasts setting rates with the FCC for $100 million in annual interstate revenues as well as additional intrastate revenues.
Consultant, San Francisco Systems (1985):
On contract to Pacific Gas & Electric prior to entering graduate school, I designed software saving this major utility company an estimated $300,000 in annual streetlight maintenance.
Programmer Technician/Analyst, Western Company of North America (1983-1985):
In my first job after graduation, I worked on a team to design and implement a work-order system for an international oilfield services company, and was promoted to project leader for business systems for their subsidiary, Western Oceanic.



EDUCATION 

Ph.D. in Economics, University of Washington (June 1992):
Fields in both Economic Development & Socialist Systems and International Trade & Finance. 
My dissertation was entitled, "Efficiency and the Response to Reform in Chinese Urban Construction Enterprises:  A Production Theory Approach."  My dissertation committee included Judith Thornton (chair), Nicholas R. Lardy, Robert Halvorsen, and Anil Deolalikar.  My research was funded by a Foreign Languages and Area Studies (FLAS) grant as well as Department Fellowships and Assistantships.
M.A. in Economics, University of Washington (August 1987).

B.B.A. in Business Systems Analysis, University of Texas at Arlington (May 1983):

I minored in Accounting and Economics, graduated Cum Laude, and was awarded the First Annual Dean's Award for Outstanding Service to the College of Business (1983).  I was president of Omicron Delta Epsilon (the economics honor society) and Alpha Iota Delta (the decision sciences honor society).  I was also selected for the honoraries Beta Gamma Sigma and Alpha Chi, and named to Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities.
Faculty Development in International Business, University of South Carolina (Summer 1995):
I studied teaching methods and material content for a course in international finance and international business, including accounting, marketing, and managerial issues.
Languages: 
I have studied Mandarin Chinese (3 years of putonghua/pinyin/jiantizi), German (1 year), and Russian (1 semester).
