Professor Tom Cargill has received the Regents Researcher of the Year Award for 2007
Professor Tom Cargill, Economics, has received the Regents Researcher of the Year Award for 2007. Professor Cargill is among the elite few to have been named not only Regents Researcher of the Year, but was named a University of Nevada Foundation Professor in 1986 and was named University of Nevada Researcher of the year in 1977. The College of Business, Dean’s office will be honoring Professor Cargill at a reception to be held Tuesday March 4, 2008 in the Ansari Business Building Student Lounge on the second floor, from 4-6pm. Please join us as we celebrate and acknowledge Professor Cargill’s outstanding achievements.

Professor Mark Pingle, Economics, presented his paper, “Patience versus Decisiveness in Decision Making” (co-authored with W.B. MacLeod) to faculty and graduate students in a seminar at Exeter University, England. Professor Pingle also presented a paper “The Rise of Fiat Money as a Competing Medium of Exchange” (co-authored with Sankar Mukhopadhyay) to faculty and graduate students in a seminar at Luiss Guido Carli University Rome, Italy.

Associate Professor Judy Strauss, Managerial Sciences has co-authored a trade book “Radically Transparent: Monitoring and Managing Reputations Online”. Professor Richard Mason’s tax law class provided free tax preparation to low income families during tax time.
Professor Richard Mason’s tax law class provided free tax preparation to low income families during tax time. Students are certified and mentored by local CPA’s, IRS agents and tax professionals. In its second year the program has become a hit with families who would otherwise pay a large fee to have their taxes prepared and filed.

Finance 430 Students generate $7,294 in profit.
During 2007 Finance 430 students managing the “Student Investment Fund”, generated $7,294 in profits. Mr. Jack McLeod, whose generous donation of $100,000 funds the program, donates all profits that are generated by the students to the College of Business.

Fall 2007 Supply Chain Management 462 Managing for Quality class students worked on two yellow belt projects at the Dell facility in Patrick, Nevada. One team identified and studied ways to improve the way employees deal with special shipping items, while the other team worked on labeling requirements and how the company deals with products that need to be tested. Many of the recommendations’ the teams made have been implemented or have been recommended for implementation at Dell facilities nationwide.

Information Systems student write software application for North Valley's High School
Under the direction of Lecturer Michael Ekedahl, Fall 2007 Information System students participated in an outreach effort with the North Valleys High School to develop a software application that would help to reduce truancy and record event attendance. College of Business students were able to practice their skills in an applied situation while helping the local high school.

Marketing 210 uses innovative format for instruction
Marketing is using a new format for organizing the traditional 16 sections of the Principles of Marketing, MKT 210. This new large class format will allow professors to handle more students with fewer faculty resources. This will be a web based class that focuses on active learning using marketing simulation and online assignments.
